Sharp Writer Boot Camp

A workshop for courageous fiction writers who have been writing for some time but are stuck in a writing stalemate. You must be willing to take an intensive look at what is working and what is not in your writing, toughen up that thick skin. Will include topics: tired ideas and how to wake them up, killing clichés, story versus meaning, how and what editors really think about POV, passive writing, show-versus-tell, and what readers crave.

PLEASE NOTE: If you are in one of the fiction clinics, you will not be able to attend the Boot Camp, but your clinic instructor will recommend you be given an appointment with Shannon on Saturday morning if she feels you have a publishable manuscript.

Prerequisite: For writers who have completed a full length novel of over 70K. Please provide the following information no later than July 31 to help Shannon prepare.

Have you completed a full-length manuscript? Full-length is described as being over 70K words for most books. More than one?

What genres have you written in? If you have written in the fantasy genre,
are you writing in other genres as well?

Have you submitted your manuscript for consideration with an agency
or publisher? If not, why?

List two published authors, either general or secular market, that you believe
compare to your writing style or content in some way. For example, "I believe
my novel(s) will appeal to readers of Sigmund Brouwer because . . ."

Is your novel based on a true story you have experienced or one of a family member?

What are you most interested in hearing about from an editor?
