reviews, and material for our departments ("Musing," and "God's
Glory) and open columns ("Business of Writing," and "Writing for
Children"). Please keep in mind that everything must have a writing theme.

Teens Write
One-on-One Appointments
Editorial Needs:
* Kung-Pao, the name of our monthly column featuring teenagers' creative
works--poems, short stories, song lyrics, photographs, artwork, etc. If
you're a teen who'd like to be published, send us your creative works
for this page (credomag@barefootministries.com).
*
Short-short fiction (500-800 words, 1 installment) that raises a
spiritual question but doesn't necessarily wrap it up with a nice clean
Christian answer.
*
Short stories (800/installment) that can be serialized over several
issues that raise a spiritual question but don't necessarily wrap it up
with a nice clean Christian answer.
* Short articles (500-800 words) on subjects of
interest to students. Articles do not necessarily have to have a
spiritual message, but should cover subject matter that will help a
student better themselves. NOTE: This is a themed magazine, so to better
your chances of getting published, please e-mail
credomag@barefootministries.com and ask for a
theme list so you know what type of articles we are looking for in
upcoming issues.
* Although Credo is a devotional
magazine, we aren't looking for submissions of devotional material; we
assign those out based on the theme of the issue. HOWEVER, we are always
open to new devotional writers, so if you're interested in writing
devotions, send a sample devotional to
credomag@barefootministries.com and
we'll take a look at it.
Overworked
topics:
* Anything
related to dating and "happy-thoughtish" articles--by that I mean
articles that don't really dive into the Scripture, but instead are more
of the "this is what happened to me, so apply it to your life." Credo
is all about going deeper and teaching teens how to live out their faith
in every day life.

Workshop 5E - Think Like an Editor, Sell Like a Pro
One-on-One Appointments
Paid Critiques
Editorial Needs:
General Information: Feature
stories should be powerful, dramatic, inspiring, role-model stories that
teach by example, rather than “here’s what to do and how to do it.”
Stories may be heart-touching, funny, adventurous, compelling—but all will
be a “good read.” Stylistically, most features will be more Reader’s
Digest or Guidepost. They will inform while entertaining. All
stories should be positive, upbeat, and inspirational. They should
encourage readers to live life to the fullest and finish well according to
biblical principles. Human interest stories should demonstrate lifestyles
and experiences that will encourage and show readers how they can make
this second half of their lives rich, full of purpose, and significance.

Angelia L. White
- unable to come
Publisher & CEO
Hope for Women Magazine
www.hopeforwomenmag.org
In 2000, Angelia first had the thought
of developing a Christian lifestyle magazine – a magazine filled with real
women, real stories, real life issues, and real hope. With a God-given
passion she began planning her lifestyle magazine. When she lost her
father and her grandmother within two months during 2005, White was
reminded of how short life is, and she knew it was time to take concrete
steps to fulfill her dream.
White didn’t know where to begin, to fulfill her passion. But as she
trusted God to lead her, he guided her all the way – opening and closing
doors. He provided the right people at the right time, and blessed her
with a supportive husband, family, friends, and an incredible mentor who
not only believed in her vision but helped to make it a reality. With a
wonderful team of dedicated individuals at her side, in September, 2006
she launched Hope for Women.
White serves as publisher of Hope for Women magazine, which is produced by
her company, Virtuous Publications Inc. She, her husband, and four children
make their home in Muncie, IN, where the publication is headquartered. |

Writing for Discipleship Journal
One-on-One Appointments
Editorial Needs:
The mission of
Discipleship Journal is to help believers develop a deeper
relationship with Jesus Christ and to provide practical help in
understanding the Scriptures and applying them to daily life and ministry.
Please study our writer's guideline for a complete description of the
articles we publish:
http://www.navpress.com/Magazines/DiscipleshipJournal/WriterGuidelines/
Currently, we are looking for articles that:
● explore some aspect of God’s character.
● help the reader develop a deeper prayer or devotional life.
● show how to grow in some aspect of Christian character.
● address relationship issues.
● provide practical help for personal evangelism, discipling, or small
group ministry.
Successful DJ articles need to:
● Derive their main principles from a thorough study of Scripture and
include that biblical basis in the article.
● Illustrate each principle.
● Show how to put each principle into practice.
• Meet readers' needs and give a clear takeaway.
● Show that the author has experienced what he or she is teaching to the
reader; be vulnerable.
● Engage the reader through good writing and storytelling. Even though we
use teaching articles, we don’t want to sound boring, academic, or
“preachy.”
We do not publish testimonies, Bible studies, devotionals, personal
profiles, purely theological material, book reviews, poetry, fiction, news
articles, or articles profiling Christian organizations or ministry
events. |
