May 4 Update

Catherine Lawton - Publisher/Editor, Cladach Publishing - http://www.cladach.com

Editorial Needs: Book manuscripts that help us to know God as Creator and to appreciate and better understand his relationship with his creation. Nonfiction authors with a platform, with opportunities and willingness to promote their books. Fiction that pulls the reader into a story where she can empathize emotionally and that gives her courage to face her own challenges with faith.

Opportunity to contribute to new book
Jeanette Gardner Littleton if working with Jim Bell to compile and edit a new book, Love Lessons. She writes:

What does it mean to learn to love someone? We’d like to hear your story of learning to love for a new compilation, Love Lessons. We’re looking for good non-fiction personal experience stories on  your journey to discovering how to care for a specific person in a specific way. These aren’t articles—the application should be within the story itself. We’re interested in stories 1000 to 2000 words long.

The stories should be a progression in learning how to love authentically and how to become a more loving person.  Most of the stories will focus on growth in relationships, including: married couples, family members, parenting, friendships, and work relationships.  But they may also relate to a neighbor, or even a homeless person.  There needs to be descriptive character development, especially related to the soul – how emotions, perspective, and quality of life were changed based on the interactions among characters.  Stories need to be in first person, based on your own personal experience of growth (or as-told-to), rather than describing someone else.

The details aren’t in stone yet, but Gary Chapman, of the Five Love Languages fame will be the key author for this compilation, perhaps adding comment after individual stories. Jim Bell and Jeanette Gardner Littleton are compiling the book, so you can send stories to Jeanette at LoveLessons@earthlink.net. Tentative deadline is July 1.

April 28 Update

Sue Teubner - Acquisitions Editor, Creation House

Sue is the new acquisitions editor for Creation House Books, an imprint of Strang Communications, and has been in publishing for ten years. First as contract administrator for Thomas Nelson, Sue handled everything from international licensing and foreign rights to contract development and author negotiations. From there Sue moved into acquiring new authors for Bridge-Logos. There, she found her love and passion, which is to develop new authors, get them acclimated to the publishing world, and encourage them through the writing process. Authors feel safe with Sue, knowing that their life messages will be treated with respect, professionalism, and uniqueness. Sue now lives in Lake Mary, FL, and enjoys going to the beach, kayaking, biking, and reading a good book.

Are you using an out-of-date photograph? - If you're like me, you HATE having your picture taken and may be using one on your Web site or in your PR literature that is very old. Jodie Westfall, a professional photographer from Texas, is coming to CCWC and is available to spend 15 minutes with YOU. After taking a few minutes to get to know you and what  you need photos for, she will begin snapping pictures and give you a CD (copyright free) of all the photos she takes of you. The cost for this session is only $40, payable to Jodie. (An hour-long session is $167.) I've seen Jodie's work and it's excellent, and the price is a bargain especially since you will own the photos and will be able to use them without a copyright notice. You can find out more about Jodie at her Web site: www.jodiewestfallphotography.com. To make an appointment, email WandaDyson@aol.com. Please let Wanda know the days you will be at the conference and whether or not you are in a clinic.

Writing Opportunity - Lidia Oprean, Executive Director of Becky's Hope Ministries, is coming to CCWC and looking for someone to work with her to get her story in print in English. Lidia came from Romania twenty years ago with her husband and their son, Mike, who was eight years old at that time. Lidia was seven months pregnant, Her baby girl, Becky, was born with Spina Bifia. Lidia was raised in a pastor's home and had a degree in engineering. When Becky was born, Lidia says, "My whole world collapsed. I thought that God had punished me. What did I do wrong?" Because Lidia was a Christian during the Ceausescu's era, she hoped she would have a good career and a successful life coming to America. She says, "For almost two years I was angry at God, very depressed and even wanting to die. Today I am the happiest mom in the world because of the prayers of my family and thousands of people in Romania and since then I am saying everywhere I go that I am honored that God has chosen me to be Becky's mom."

Fourteen years ago Lidia met Joni Eareckson Tada at a camp for families of special needs. Their friendship grew through Wheels for the World, taking wheelchairs to Romania. Joni encouraged Lidia to write her story. Becky suffering and blessing has been published in several editions in Romania. Joni wrote the foreword for the book.

In the last five years God gave Lidia the vision to minister to the parents, especially the moms, of special needs children in Romania and Moldova. Becky's Hope Ministry is founded on Psalm 139; 2 Corinthians 1:3-4; and Matthew 25:40. Lidia's vision is to bring spiritual healing to the families of special needs children in the countries where they are not accepted as a blessing but seen as a curse. Becky's Hope Ministry has sponsored week retreats for the parents, and last summer launched for the first time in the world a camp for the siblings of the families of special needs. You can learn  more from our Web site: www.beckyshope.org.

Lidia would like to have Becky's book written in English and published here. "But, of course," she says, "the passion of her life is missions, being a servant of Christ 'to the least of these.'"

If you'd like to meet with Lidia to talk about how you may be able to work with her, please email WandaDyson@aol.com to request an appointment. Let Wanda know the days you will be at the conference and whether or not you are in a clinic. This is a bonus appointment - not one of the four you are entitled to if you are with us for the entire conference.
