How to Craft a Winning Non-fiction Book Proposal
Cindy Lambert
The most effective tool for moving your book idea from concept to
published book is a well-crafted book proposal. For seasoned writers and
those in the beginning stages of exploring the world of published
authors, crafting a strong proposal is valuable not only in winning the
attention and interest of an editor, but also in equipping an interested
editor in winning acceptance of your book within the publishing house.
Beyond those benefits, the discipline of developing and improving a
proposal enhances the focus and power of your writing, sensitizes you to
the reader you are trying to reach, and educates you on the competition
your book is facing. In this 90 minute workshop we will examine each
component of a complete NON-FICTION proposal, discover the differences
between a mediocre and an outstanding proposal, and explore ways to
improve any already completed proposal. NOTE: Attendees are invited to make an
appointment with Cindy to have their proposals critiqued during the
conference.
E10 -
Publicity: Fiction's Secret Weapon
Jeane Wynn
Publicity is one of the
most mysterious and misunderstood elements in the life of a fiction
author.
From the proper care and feeding of readers, to understanding why
fiction publicity matters, to utilizing new avenues to increase your
exposure, this interactive workshop by industry veteran Jeane Wynn will
address issues you may never have considered and answer the questions
you have always wanted to ask. For writers with one or more published
novels or a novel under contract or agented. Advanced fiction writers
who have completed or nearly completed a novel and are in the process of
preparing a proposal are also welcome to attend.
E11 - Too
Shy to Pitch and Promote
Terry Burns
Believe it or
not, Terry is very shy and introverted, but he has learned how to
overcome it and present an exciting and fast-moving program. Lots of
writers are drawn to writing because they have trouble expressing
themselves verbally. Many consciously or unconsciously sabotage their
own publishing efforts because they fear they will have to do these
things if they are successful. Terry will show you how to develop a
public persona and hide behind it.

E13 - Writing Tight
Rick Steele
Most new authors
have the impression that good writing has to be flowery and full of
verbiage. But good writing - the kind that editors love- is tight
writing. Rick will dissect different types of wordiness and offer
suggestions on how to trim flabby writing.
