Enhancing Your Role as a Writer (Thursday am,
Les) -
Growth as a writer must go beyond skills development. Without continued
spiritual growth a writer becomes self-focused. We’ll look at resources
available to develop the inner strength, orientation, and stamina to be an
effective writer. But we’ll also look outward to the many opportunities to
expand your role as a writer, most of which are overlooked by even
dedicated writers. Les will not only draw on his own experience of over 58
years as a writer but also those of associates throughout the years.
Writing Biblically for Life Impact
(Thursday pm, Les)
- When Jesus refused to speak to a
crowd without telling a story (Matthew 13:34) He established the basis for
all Christian communication, fiction or nonfiction. Why was this not
recognized by Christian communicators until recently? What does it mean
for writers in the 21st century? How do we implement Jesus' style of
communication to grab the attention of the e-book reader, when the
majority of e-book sales are fiction? How do we communicate basic gospel
truths to a TV and movie-viewing population? How do we get beyond
entertainment to life impact?
Developing a Personal
Marketing Strategy: Promote Your Writing with Professional Polish and
Pizzazz (Friday am, Linda) -
How can your writing stand out
amidst the “noise” of exhaustive and mixed marketing messages? How
will your message touch the world? This hands-on course equips you to
evaluate your marketing methods and design a personal marketing strategy
that moves you from the typical “hit- or-miss” approach to a comprehensive
strategy guaranteeing success in the marketplace. Using traditional
methods coupled with the most current tools of our digital age, worksheets
will enable you (during the actual session time) to start the process of
refining your marketing plan with proven techniques you can implement
immediately. Don’t be overwhelmed by marketing. Seize the opportunity. You
won’t regret it.
Navigating
Book Collaboration and Today’s Contract Negotiation (Friday pm, Les)
- Collaborating with one or
more writers or tackling a ghostwriting assignment require navigating
tricky rapids. We’ll look at the positives and the negatives, what leads
to unhappy endings, and how to try to prevent them—all based on Les'
numerous collaborations and ghostwriting assignments. Then we’ll do a
quick trip through negotiating a contract with a publisher, seen from the
perspective of one who has been on both sides of the table many times.
Amazing
Marketing Results for Little or No Money (Saturday pm, Eddie &
Cindy) -
How to get storefront space in the
showroom of the world’s largest bookseller (Amazon), ways to market your
books through Skype, cell-phone, internet radio, YouTube, and Video Blogs
technology, and how casting your readers as characters in your next book is
a “killer” idea. Learn how selecting a cause or charity can create FREE
media interest in your book and drive sales.
