Clinics
Get the help you need
with
your fiction or nonfiction!
Six hours of coaching in a small group of ten
writers!
The clinics will meet during the two hour-long workshops each day (for a total of six hours)
making it possible for participants also to attend a continuing session.
Your application must be received by e-mail no later
than
July 16.
You will be notified whether or not you have been accepted by
July 20. If accepted, you will need to email your manuscript (please follow
the length parameters) to
mbagnull@aol.com
no later than July 23. Your manuscript will be forwarded to your coach and
the other participants in your clinic. This will allow time for you to read
one another's work prior to the conference and thus gain more from the
clinic.
Those accepted for one of the
clinics must be registered for the entire conference and pay an additional
$65 upon acceptance when they submit their manuscript.
Because the clinics
will not be taped, our Appointment Coordinator, Bonnie Calhoun, will do her
best not to schedule your one-on-one appointments during this time.
A laptop computer
is strongly
encouraged to get the most out of the clinic.

Published Novelists
Joyce Magnin
http://www.joycemagnin.com
http://joycemagnin.blogspot.com
Joyce Magnin is the author of the popular and
quirky Bright’s Pond novels including The Prayers of Agnes Sparrow,
named a top title for 2009 by Library Journal and a 2010 Carol
Award finalist; Carrying Mason, a middle grade novel releasing
from Zonderkidz in August; and Harriet Beamer Takes the Bus
coming from Zondervan in May 2012. She is a frequent conference
speaker and writing instructor. When she’s not writing or reading,
Joyce enjoys baseball, needle arts, and cream soda but not
elevators—especially glass ones. She listens to many kinds of music,
shamelessly confesses to enjoying video games, and has never eaten a
scallop or sky dived. Joyce has three children, Rebekah, Emily, and
Adam and three grandsons, Lemuel, Cedar, and Soren, and one
son-in-law, Joshua. Joyce lives in Havertown, Pennsylvania, with her
son, Adam, and their crazy cat, Mango, where she cares for an
eighty-year-old onion plant.
Prerequisite: A draft of at least
10,000 words of your novel and the desire to learn, grow, laugh, and
experiment.

slush.

as an attachment in Word or RTF with everything in ONE file.
Marlene will send your submission on to Joyce and to the other members of
the clinic.

“There are three rules for writing a book,” a famous author once said.
“Unfortunately, no one knows what they are!”
It’s true
—
to some extent, the process of writing a book is shrouded in mystery and is
probably the main reason why so many potential book authors are simply
treading water; they just don’t know how to get started. This clinic can
help take the confusion out of the process.
Based on my book, Writing the Christian Nonfiction Book: Concept to
Contract and workshops I've taught at Christian writers’ conferences
across the country, the clinic focuses on eight steps every book author must
take to be successfully published. Merging practical advice with spiritual
counsel, the emphasis is on the inspirational impact of the author’s
material.
On
acceptance:
By July 23 you will need to email
mbagnull@aol.com
the following
as an attachment in Word or RTF with everything in ONE file.
1. A single-page query letter.
2. An annotated table of contents with a short
paragraph summary of each chapter.
3. Your introduction and/or first chapter (maximum
2,000 words).
4. Three questions/concerns you'd like addressed in the
clinic.
You will receive
a copy via email of everyone's submission to allow time for you to read the
work of the others in your group prior to the conference and thus learn more
from David's comments.
