Sandra Bishop
Literary Agent
MacGregor Literary Agency
http://www.macgregorliterary.com
Sandra began her career in the
industry in the eighties, when a friend noticed her abilities with words
and encouraged her to attend a writers' conference. That's where she first
realized writing could be more than a dream, but a real—and
respectable—profession worth pursuing. After a few years learning the
craft, pitching article ideas to magazine editors, and meeting deadlines,
Sandra began to map out a career in publishing.
It wasn't long before a door opened at Multnomah Press,
and Sandra landed a job in the marketing department, where she
participated in publishing meetings and assisted with contracts, budgets,
and marketing plans for a respectable list of nonfiction authors including
Brennan Manning, Max Lucado, Gigi Graham, and Chuck Swindoll.
Sandra has been working with Chip MacGregor since 2007,
helping with contracts and office details, and getting to know the
business. Sandra's longevity in the industry, commitment to
professionalism in her freelance career, and creative resourcefulness made
her a welcome addition to MacGregor Literary. When Chip invited Sandra to
join him as an agent, it was a natural next step. Her background in
writing, her extensive experience in marketing, and her familiarity with
publishing has prepared Sandra to work with authors who desire to create
books that make a difference.
Workshop -
Voice (3A)
Editorial Needs
FICTION - Contemporary and historical;
especially women's. Looking specifically for the following at this time:
region-specific historicals (preferably with a contemporary
connection); humor; romance; stories which challenge "American"
Christianity yet affirm authentic, traditional Christian faith.
NON-FICTION -
Christian living subjects from authors with strong platform. How-To's
(Christian living and otherwise) written in an entertaining manner which
deliver easy to identify take-away for readers. Especially interested in
looking at projects which explore social justice; environmentalism;
consumerism and racism.
YA - Very
selective. Fiction must appeal to both adults and older teens; be
imaginative and exceptionally well written. Prefer YA Non-Fiction that
addresses contemporary issues in a fresh voice and helps young adults
authenticate their faith and make decisions about their lifestyle choices.
TIPS - Open to
meeting with unpublished authors who have well thought out projects and
organized proposals (table of contents is very helpful) and a well
crafted, succinct synopsis. No short stories, children's books, science
fiction, derivatives, end-times material or biblical (historical) fiction. |

I've Written My Novel - Now What? Attention-Grabbing Book Proposals
(with Tamela Hancock Murray) (2E)
Editorial Needs - Diana's
focus is nonfiction but she entertains well-written fiction as well. She
has a passion for getting great writers published, also venturing into the
ABA market. She is NOT looking for memoirs or biblical historical fiction,
children's books, poetry, or short stories. YA will be considered. All
material must be written from a Christian Worldview but does not have to
be overtly evangelical. She is open to good clean well written material.

Hope started her writing career as a freelance writer/journalist for
Christianity Today, Charisma, Focus on the Family,

Hope’s home is full of laughter and surprises these

“Give me liberty, or give me death.”

Hope loves to talk to
new and experienced authors who are seeking publication. There is no
doubt that these are tough times in the publishing industry. Most
traditional publishers are cutting back on the few titles that they
are releasing each year and, while they are less willing to take a
risk on an unknown author, there are a few who are looking for that
one book that shines, that special manuscript that grabs them when
they read the first page. If that’s your book, then I’d like to see
it!

Editorial Needs -
I'm always on the
lookout for a sparkling manuscript geared to CBA regardless of genre. For
fiction, I favor romance, romantic suspense, and historicals set in the
U.S. in the 1800s. For nonfiction, I like to see an author with a fresh
approach to a topic, along with a great platform. I always enjoy speaking
with writers, and would be happy to meet to discuss career goals or just
to chat.
