The clinics will meet during the two hour-long workshops each day (for a total of six hours) making it possible for participants also to attend a continuing session.

Your application (visit again for links) must be received by e-mail no later than April 16. You will be notified whether or not you have been accepted by April 23. Those accepted for one of the clinics must be registered for the entire conference and pay an additional $65 upon acceptance.

Because the clinics will not be taped, we will do our best not to schedule your one-on-one appointments or any paid critiques during this time.

A laptop computer is strongly encouraged to get the most out of the clinic. Not needed for the Speaker's Clinic.

Joyce is the author of the popular and award-winning Bright’s Pond novels from Abingdon Press and two middle grade novels, Carrying Mason (Zonderkidz, August 2011) and Harriet Beamer Takes the Bus (Zondervan, 2012). She is a frequent workshop leader and conference speaker. Joyce lives in Pennsylvania with her son, Adam, and their crazy cat, Mango.

Are you serious about finishing and submitting your novel? Are you submitting but collecting rejections? Sometimes fun, always encouraging, and always truthful, this clinic will get to the heart of your situation and provide the tools necessary to help you rise above the run-of-the-mill slush.

Visit again for application.

Prerequisite: A draft of at least 10,000 words of your novel and the desire to learn, grow, laugh, and experiment.

On acceptance:  By April 25 you will need to email mbagnull@aol.com a one-page synopsis and two chapters as an attachment in Word or RTF with everything in ONE file. Marlene will send your submission on to Joyce and to the other members of the clinic.

Book Doctor: Take Your Nonfiction from Good to Great
Marti Pieper
Author, Collaborative Writer, Editor
www.martipieper.com

Marti's passion to read, write, and pray makes her life an adventure. A 2005 prayer project led to a journey of collaborative writing that continues today. When not capturing others’ stories, Marti speaks across the country; writes and edits for SUSIE Magazine; and serves as Director of Prayer and Publication for Awe Star Ministries, a student mission-sending organization. A member of AWSA (Advanced Writers and Speakers Association), she holds a B.S.Ed. from The Ohio State University and M.Div. from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.

Marti applies her writing and editing experience to expose common errors in your nonfiction manuscript, offering both general and specific tips for improvement. The workshop includes ways to identify your unique selling point and target audience, proposal writing, and eliminating the common flaws that can leave your manuscript unsold and unread.

Visit again for application.

On acceptance:
By April 25 you will need to email mbagnull@aol.com a detailed synopsis including Table of Contents and first ten pages of your WIP as an attachment in Word or RTF with everything in one file. Marlene will send your submission on to Marti and the other members of the clinic. You must agree to read each submission and come prepared to exchange ideas.

Every writer needs to be a speaker, too. If you’ve been avoiding the challenge to begin the speaking part of your ministry or need to improve what you’re already doing, this is the clinic  for you. Roy will help you 1) discover your ministry focus and how to talk about it (power statements), 2) organize one of your talks to maximize time and effectiveness  (message development), 3) present your talk with power and pizzazz (voice personality), and 4) market your message through radio (media mania). You’ll have an opportunity to test what you learn and receive helpful evaluation from Roy and your peers.

The clinic is limited to 10 participants. Participants need to bring an outline of a presentation they’ve given or are working on and be prepared to present a portion of that talk. On acceptance they also need to send Roy any promotional materials they’ve developed on their books and/or any articles they’ve written by April 25 and bring 10 copies of each promotional piece to the clinic for other participants to see.
