Sandra Bishop
Literary Agent
MacGregor Literary Agency
www.macgregorliterary.com
Sandra began her career in the
industry in the eighties, when a friend noticed her abilities with words
and encouraged her to attend a writers' conference. That's where she first
realized writing could be more than a dream, but a real—and
respectable—profession worth pursuing. After a few years learning the
craft, pitching article ideas to magazine editors, and meeting deadlines,
Sandra began to map out a career in publishing.
It wasn't long before a door opened at Multnomah Press,
and Sandra landed a job in the marketing department, where she
participated in publishing meetings and assisted with contracts, budgets,
and marketing plans for a respectable list of nonfiction authors including
Brennan Manning, Max Lucado, Gigi Graham, and Chuck Swindoll.
Sandra has been working with Chip MacGregor since 2007,
helping with contracts and office details, and getting to know the
business. Sandra's longevity in the industry, commitment to
professionalism in her freelance career, and creative resourcefulness made
her a welcome addition to MacGregor Literary. When Chip invited Sandra to
join him as an agent, it was a natural next step. Her background in
writing, her extensive experience in marketing, and her familiarity with
publishing has prepared Sandra to work with authors who desire to create
books that make a difference.
Workshop - Voice (2C)
Paid Critiques
- Fiction including historical, contemporary, romance. No sci-fi,
thrillers, fantasy, and no childrens or YA at this time. Nonfiction:
Christian living, lifestyle, health, humor, women's books, writing books,
memoir. No personal story, theology, gift books, parenting books.
Editorial Needs
FICTION - Contemporary and historical;
especially women's. Looking specifically for the following at this time:
region-specific historicals (preferably with a contemporary
connection); humor; romance; stories which challenge "American"
Christianity yet affirm authentic, traditional Christian faith.
NONFICTION -
Christian living subjects from authors with strong platform. How-To's
(Christian living and otherwise) written in an entertaining manner which
deliver easy to identify take-away for readers. Especially interested in
looking at projects which explore social justice, environmentalism,
consumerism, and racism.
YA - Very
selective. Fiction must appeal to both adults and older teens; be
imaginative and exceptionally well written. Prefer YA Non-Fiction that
addresses contemporary issues in a fresh voice and helps young adults
authenticate their faith and make decisions about their lifestyle choices.
TIPS - Open to
meeting with unpublished authors who have well thought out projects and
organized proposals (table of contents is very helpful) and a well
crafted, succinct synopsis. No short stories, children's books, science
fiction, derivatives, end-times material, or biblical (historical) fiction. |

Authors
with polished writing and marketable, well-thought out ideas that the
author has the ability to promote, sell, and offer the organization(s)
he or she is affiliated with.
The
author needs to have strong content that is practical and
reader-friendly. It is helpful for authors to have endorsements from
other authors (particularly in his or her genre). Ideally, all of
these elements would generate interest from media outlets to promote
the book and the author’s ongoing recognition in the marketplace. The
author needs to construct a marketing plan in traditional and
non-traditional outlets to promote his or her book to become a known
voice for the subject matter of the book and build credibility and a
following through outlets like social networking. All of these
elements contribute to a successful book campaign for both the author
and the agent.

Jodie Westfall
Photographer
http://www.jodiewestfallphotography.com
Are you using an
out-of-date photograph?
- If you're like
most writers, you HATE having your picture taken and may be using one on your Web site
or in your PR literature that is very old. Jodie Westfall,
a professional photographer from Texas, is coming to CCWC and is available
to spend 15 minutes with YOU. After taking a few minutes to get to know you
and what you need photos for, she will begin snapping pictures and
give you a CD (copyright free) of all the photos she takes of you. The cost
for this session is only $50, payable to Jodie.
Jodie's work is excellent, and the price is a bargain
especially since you will own the photos and will be able to use them
without a copyright notice. You can find out more about Jodie at her Web
site.
To make an appointment, email
wandadyson@aol.com. Please let
Wanda
know the days you will be at the conference and whether or not you are in a
clinic. After you have registered for the conference and contacted Wanda for an
appointment with Jodie, you will receive a Pay Pal invoice from Jodie. If you
pay pre-conference, the price is $45 instead of $50. |
